Why Choose "Small" Larvae?
Not sure which size to pick? Our Small BSFL are the secret weapon for many northern keepers! Here is why they might be the perfect fit for your critters:
The Perfect "Starter" Size: Small larvae are tiny and soft, making them much easier to manage for brand-new hatchlings and delicate species. They provide a massive nutritional punch without any risk of being "too much to chew."
Maximum Shelf Life: Because Small larvae are in the earliest stage of development, they stay in the larval stage the longest. This gives you the maximum window of time to feed them out before they reach maturity.
Safe & Easy Digestion: For tiny animals, impaction is a worry. These small larvae have the softest exoskeletons, ensuring even the smallest pets absorb 100% of that local, farm-fresh calcium and protein safely.
Triggers Hunting Instincts: Their fast, frantic wiggle is highly visible to small predators, making them the perfect "enticing" feeder for picky eaters that ignore stagnant food.
Whether you are starting a new brood or caring for a nano-species, our Small BSFL offer the safest, most nutrient-dense start possible.
Caring for Your Black Soldier Fly Larvae
Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) are incredibly easy to keep! Unlike other live feeders, they don't require much space or noise. Follow these simple steps to keep your larvae fresh and wiggly:
Temperature Matters: For a longer shelf life, keep them in a cool, dark place (around 10°C to 15°C). A cool basement or the door of your refrigerator usually works well. If you want them to grow faster, keep them at room temperature.
No Food or Water Needed: Your larvae arrive at their peak nutritional stage. They don't need to be fed or watered; in fact, keeping them dry prevents them from climbing out of their container.
Moisture Control: Keep the bedding material dry. If it gets too damp, the larvae may try to crawl out.
Ready to Use: When you’re ready to feed, simply sift out the amount you need. If they seem "sleepy" from being in a cool spot, they will wake up and start moving within minutes of reaching room temperature.
Pro Tip: At this small size, they are very active! If you find them hard to catch, pop them in the fridge for 2–3 minutes before feeding to slow them down just enough for your pet to grab them easily.
