Our Story: From Homesteading to Queen Worm Farm

John and I met in September 2005 and married just two months later in November. From the very beginning, our lives changed rapidly, and together we built a life centered around family, hard work, and the land. What started as a simple homestead grew into something much more; our businesses, Everything Homemade and Kitties Home Away From Home, developed naturally over time without a formal plan, born out of our passion for serving others.

"For over a decade, I’ve shared my knowledge of baking, gardening, and animal husbandry through my YouTube channel, Everything Homemade. My passion for storytelling and education even led me to become a published author of clean romance novels, cookbooks, and the Color and Learn Gardening curriculum for children.

However, my deepest drive has always been the pursuit of true self-sufficiency. By blending my years of hands-on experience with my love for teaching, I have launched the Everything Homemade Training Academy. This academy offers a real, practical approach to homesteading, designed to move beyond the screen and give you the tangible skills—from milking cows to mastering the garden—needed to build a self-reliant life."

The Evolution of Queen Worm Farm

Our journey into the world of beneficial insects began in 2024. It started simply: I began raising Red Wiggler worms to provide extra protein for my chickens. Before long, friends and neighbors began asking to buy them for their own composting bins. Sensing a need in our community, Queen Worm Farm was officially born.

As I continued to research the best nutrition for our feathered friends, I discovered that while worms are amazing for the soil, Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) are actually a superior food source for poultry and quail. In 2026, we expanded our operations to include BSFL.

Today, Queen Worm Farm serves a dual purpose for the North:

  • Red Wigglers: The gold standard for local composters looking to create "black gold" for their gardens.

  • Black Soldier Fly Larvae: A nutritional powerhouse specifically raised to feed and fuel your poultry, reptiles, and other critters.

We are proud to be a family-run business located near DeBolt, Alberta, dedicated to providing high-quality, locally-raised solutions for our northern communities. Thank you for being a part of our story!
